I have same issue, bought mine a week ago, just got round to burning my first imovie and what....no idvd !

i have read on here that the new imac's do not not come with either idvd or iweb now and that idvd is being phased out!

The only answer is to purchase ilife 11, which means more money, and after reading about ilife 11, it aint that great apparently, because the iphoto version on it is not good !

So, what to do now.......i am a little disgruntled to say the least !

just phoned apple store.they are not aware of this issue ! they are going to get apple care to call me tomorrow 9 am. i have i life 11 already pre installed.so with view to your suggestion i would have to install it of the pre installed vers.my point is if i already have it installed how would another copy fix the problem, if you see what i mean.

i dont think apple support know much either.

thanks

iDVD is not installed on computers shipped with Lion, only iMovie, iPhoto, and Gargageband.  It was not on my new Mac Mini server I just bought.  I called support, and was first told it was, and then after some more time, was told that iDVD and iWeb are not on machines shipped with Lion, and that i could buy iLife11 and get iDVD.

many other threads like this one:

I've heard that some who've complained have gotten copies of iDVD.....

I apologize about the misinformation from the Apple Store, and I know it is inconvenient, however Apple is moving away from optical media. Two of the mac lines already do not come with Optical Drives built-in. All their applications are migrating to the Mac App store for purchase.

But if you really need iDVD, you can still purchase iLife '11

They dropped the price of this to $49. Probably for users that want iWeb and iDVD with their new Macs.

not good enough i paid a lot of money for my mac on the fact that i was able to use idvd.why should i have to pay for a second copy when i have already paid for one.what is apple prepared to do for me to rectify this situation.i am considering returning my mac for a refund and going back to a pc.i feel i have been misinformed by apple.it may be the store ,but they represent apple.

Take it up with Apple Customer Service. No one here can help you.

I cannot tell you how disappointed and upset I was to find that my brand new (August 2011) Mac Mini didn't come with iDVD. Moreover, it's not even available as an app download?! I have been waiting for a few years to buy a new computer for financial reasons. I waited and waited until I could afford a Mac because I specifically wanted a Mac due to their stellar reputation. Now, it can't even do everything I was expecting it to do?

My complaint is twofold. First, why bother to maintain on your web pages that iLife '11 "comes with iWeb and iDVD" in addition to iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand? All the new Macs are pre-loaded with iLife '11 for your convenience, but it is not the complete version of iLife, is it? This is basically false advertizing. I am not impressed. And the fact that I can't even buy this as an add-on from the App Store (seriously, I would have paid $5-$10 for the privilege ...) is also a kick in the pants.

Second, how dare Apple use the announcement of the iCloud to decide what sort of storage options I should have. If I want to waste my time creating silly little DVD menus and burning my home movies to a boring old disc, that is my choice as a consumer of mass media. To boot, cloud computing is not the be-all and end-all. It is still early stages and long-term media storage across all platforms is a huge issue.

Ask any librarian or archivist about preserving media (both print and digital) over the long term. There is a very good reason why your local public library and archives still uses microfilm/form as their preferred method of preservation for print materials; it remains the only preservation medium not to have become redundant.

I am so mad about this that after wanting an Apple for so long, this may be the last one I ever buy.
